Blog Contribution 18.6 Assignment

Posted By Carmen Rosales, Monday, April 30, 2018

Hello everyone! My name is Carmen Rosales, I am from LA California. I have been working in the legal field for over 10 years and although I don't hate my job, I also don't love it.  I have always felt that I have so much creativity and I'm the first to jump in when it comes to planing any event or party.  I was so happy to find this course, and nowI am almost finished and hope to be a certified wedding and event planner, very shortly!

Through this course, I learned about the strong work ethic needed to be an event planner. I gained so much insight from the material and lectures provided by the instructors. The biggest takeaway for me was realizing what a huge network the wedding and event planning industry is, Im excited to jump in and start my own company.

My hope is to help couples realize the wedding/event of their dreams and to ease the stress of having to worry about throwing an epic party. My other passion in life is traveling (currently uploading from FIJI!!) So, I'd also like to explore joining my two passions and dabble into destination weddings.

Dream Team Productions is a firm believer in giving back to the communities in which it operates, and to this end supports a number of local charities, I'd like to help couples who are less fortunate as well as provide charity work , perhaps in helping plan events at local schools and/or church and community centers.

My LWPI Experience

Posted By Ayesha Fardell, Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Hi Everyone! My name is Ayesha Fardell and I am the owner of the wedding and special events company, Elle Qui Vit. While I started my company before enrolling in LWPI, I feel this course has given me so many tools to grow my business, be more creative and work more effectively. I am very excited about earning my certification and beginning to implement all the new things I've learned. I'd say some of the most helpful tools have been the A8, learning about contracts and negotiations, and marketing my business both locally and on a wider scale. I am feeling very motivated to work both in and on my business and put in the work to make it successful. Thanks LWPI!

Project 1

Posted By Lauren Grzymala, Friday, February 10, 2017

Hi everyone!

Well, it took some time, but I FINALLY finished project 1! It was a big task, but I can honestly say I enjoyed every second of making it come together. After going through the full project, I have a better appreciation for the career I will be stepping into, hopefully in not too long. I really put a lot of time and thought behind this project because I really want to put everything into perspective for myself, but also challenge myself to be more creative and unique in what I plan. I appreciate any feedback y'all have to offer!

Thank you!

My LWPI Adventure

Posted By Anthalene Hall, Wednesday, October 19, 2016
Updated: Wednesday, October 19, 2016

This course was my first major step in launching my career as an event planner. I've planned many events and thrive on all the hard work, details, creativity, and everything else that goes into planning a great event. It has also provided me with the tools I need to move forward and start to earn a living at what I enjoy doing so much.

Taking this course from the best instructor LWPI has to offer, Desiree Dent, has given me the knowledge and confidence I needed to take the leap of faith and seriously start making plans and actually taking steps towards a career in event planning.

The course has been very intense and challenging, but will be very useful in the future. Desiree is so awesome! She brings her passion and expertise for event planning into the classroom. She has a captured audience for the full 2.5 hours of class. We enjoy every minute.

The part of the course I liked the least was the online portion. It needs to be simplified. The site is too busy and it's not as clear as it could be.

My experience as a student of LWPI

Posted By Pegah Haghighat, Tuesday, April 19, 2016

My experience started when I was looking for different wedding planning certifications and got the interested by searching other well known wedding planner like David Tutera who does work with Lovegevity Students. I signed up for it the week prior and was really excited to learn more about the wedding planning industry. Myself always being interested in everything that evolves around weddings and also planning my own wedding gave me the excitement to do this certification although I am working full time and traveled twice to San Francisco during the week to attend the class which took a lot of time away for my assignments and projects.

The course did require a lot of time and energy but my hunger for more information made me keep going and wanting to finish this class with soaking in as much information and experience from the chapters, blogs, podcasts and of course the onsite classes with Sheila. I decided to do a class rather to do it only online because of the experience and the exchange of different knowledge and opinions of my fellow students.

Coming from a back round in marketing events and scheduling/coordinating corporate meetings helped me to understand the meaning behind this class but also showed me a different side of planning since a wedding take a lot more details and creativity to make it successful. It has been a great experience and I am looking forward where this gained knowledge will take me in life.

Keeping On Track

Posted By Danielle Prince, Sunday, March 27, 2016
I loved going through this class but keeping on track was quite a struggle. Life seemed to just keep getting in the way. It got to the point where it'd be weeks between assignment submissions. This meant that I'd forget what assignments I'd already submitted and which ones I still needed to do. I know that there is a physical checklist that I can print out put I don't have easy access to a printer. I think that it would be very helpful if the website would inform you if certain assignments had already been submitted the way that the quizzes tell you that you've already passed the quiz. That would be really helpful for crazy people like me.

Idea Factory March 10-13... Anyone going???

Posted By Alegria ~. Sita, Monday, November 26, 2012

I am considering attending the Event Solutions Idea Factory (http://www.es-ideafactory.com/) in Las Vegas March 10-13, 2013.  Anyone else from Lovegevity going?  Does anyone know if LWPI student's get a discount for attending?  Are there any volunteer positions available?

I'm thinking of going, but would definitely love to find ways to make it more affordable and fun (room share, attend some events together, etc.).  Essentially, the idea of going to the conference alone sounds a bit overwhelming, and unfortunately a bit out of my budget this year... so, I'm looking for ways to make it happen, because it sounds like a really fantastic opportunity to get inspired, learn new tricks of the trade, and meet amazing and successful people in the biz!

Please respond if you are going, interested in going, or have ideas for making it more affordable.

Warmly,

Alegria~Sita

LWPI - CWEP Lehman College 2012 Summer Session

Posted By Jacqueline Vazquez, Saturday, August 11, 2012
Updated: Saturday, August 11, 2012

LWPI-CWEP Lehman College Summer 2012 Session

What an amazing class. From the first day to the end, these ladies were eager and ready to learn. First day I greeted everyone and told them that I was there to share with them about the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the industry. I want my students to know from the very beginning that it is an awesome career, but there are so many things they need to know about the industry before being a successful planner. The goal is to work together with all the wedding and event professionals to make the event a success. Patience is one important feature they learned, and that knowledge is power.
Much success to these beautiful ladies. Thank you to Darryl Gaines, Groom Expert and Planner, and Lynn Jawitz, Florisan Fine European Floristry for sharing information on contracts and the importance of protecting yourself.

LWPI Chapter 18.6

Posted By Candace Sharper, Saturday, March 31, 2012
Yay to fruit in a cone!  This a picture of ice cream cones used to serve fruit.  This was a great idea at a fun party I had.  It was a light snack and made a good show to my friends.  They enjoyed!  Once my friends ate the fruit I served them ice cream in their empty cones :-)  A dual serving!

Course recap

Posted By Charity Ramos (Smith), Monday, May 23, 2011

As a wedding and event planning company co-owner I have found the lessons learned over the past few months very useful and applicable for both those who are in the industry today and for those who plan to start in the future. Being organized or a good designer is not enough if you want to be successful; keeping up with trends, market conditions, customs, etc are all essential and this course does a good job of making you find places to get this information now and in the future. Good luck and much success to all who complete the course!

LWPI Students at Wagner College Meet Preston Bailey

Posted By Abby Langston, Wednesday, April 27, 2011

A group of lucky LWPI students at Wagner College in New York, Richmond County, recently had the opportunity to meet and tour the New York City offices of one of the wedding industry’s most elite members, Preston Bailey. The students’ instructor, Marissa Mortimer, the owner of Lavish Occasions in Staten Island, N.Y., says the trip was not only an unbelievable experience for her students but for herself, as well.

"When (Lovegevity’s) Wedding Planning Institute launched their partnership with the fabulous Preston Bailey, I was thrilled. When I navigated through his course I sat inspired by every word, image and idea. I literally pictured how I would discuss each aspect of his business in my classroom. I had a small glimmer of hope that I would be able to bring my students to his office, and though he is such a busy and celebrated person my dream came true today and with a down-to-earth, informative and patient event designer. His staff prepared a beautiful statement piece for us that was imaged as a huge design board, with florals stating ‘Welcome Wagner College’,” Mortimer shares on her blog.

Mortimer’s students are currently enrolled in Preston Bailey’s Signature Wedding and Event Design course through LWPI. During their meeting with Preston they were able to ask him any question they wanted about his business and experience in the wedding industry. Preston says on his blog that he is "so inspired by other wedding and event designers, but especially those that are young and just starting out. Their perspective is fresh, and their enthusiasm is contagious. The students I met last week were no exception. It was such a pleasure to chat with them and hear their plans and ideas.”

Mortimer and her students were invited to meet with Preston in his personal office. He asked the students questions about themselves, and he offered them a look into his background and career. "In a world where today so much ‘wedding fluff’ can be found, it was so refreshing to have open and honest dialog with a superstar,” Mortimer says on her blog.

The students also got a behind-the-scenes tour of Preston’s offices, giving them a look at where all the magic happens! They met with several of his staff and got to see first-hand the creativity and hard work that goes into his dazzling events. Natalie Licini, a New York and New Jersey wedding photographer, joined the group to make sure that Mortimer and her students have something tangible to remember their extraordinary visit with Preston!

Mortimer has been teaching wedding- and event design courses for about four years, and finds that introducing her students to top-notch vendors and industry leaders is a great way to get her students’ careers off on the right foot. "You are only as good as your vendors and that’s why I only work with the best in their fields,” she says. Her students in this class included: Zahra Alaouie, Yosmery Brito, Felicia Gibson, Krystal Erinosho, Mariya Molduvanova, Pauline Peramuna, and Tania Salmeron.

This summer, Wagner College will hold a Wedding Planning and Design Seminar where Mortimer will discuss Preston Bailey's Signature Wedding and Event Design course, wedding- and event-planning certification, and helpful hints on planning a truly memorable wedding. For more information, contact Mortimer at marissa@lavishoccasions.com or Wagner College, 718-390-3221.
