CWEP- Project 1

Posted By Kelly B. Ducote (Parker), Tuesday, October 23, 2018
Updated: Tuesday, October 23, 2018

Hello! My name is Kelly Ducote & I live in Greenback, TN. I worked in banking for over 12 years and during that time planned many community events for the bank(s) I worked for. Within that time frame I found my calling & always wanted to pursue my dream job in becoming an event planner. I currently am an event coordinator for the company I work for. I plan anything from weddings, graduation parties, corporate events to baby showers & memorial services. My plan is to finish this course and start my own company.

My experience in the class has been very informational. Though some things I already knew, I am finding/learning new things every day! I enjoy hearing real life experiences from local event coordinators & vendors. Learning the finer details through this curriculum has helped me even in my current job with helping brides plan their weddings. I also learned the importance of having great relationships with vendors so that for future events we can work seamlessly together and create a wonderful experience for our client.

My inspiration for the wedding I planned for this project was an actual client of mine at my work who will be getting married this December. They are a very fun and loving couple who plan to have a huge wedding of 400 guest. So this has been the biggest wedding I have planned thus far. Though their wedding is in December the bride's favorite colors are gold and plush pink. Their vision is that their wedding will be very elegant with touches of gold & pink but still make it very warm and inviting for their guests. There will be lots of greenery and beautiful centerpieces with shimmering gold touches.

Project 1

Posted By Alyssa Murphy, Thursday, January 5, 2017

This is my first project. I really enjoyed the aspect of choosing a theme for the wedding, including color coordination and choosing decoration elements that go with "elegance" and "a magical evening." Choosing wedding activities was my biggest challenge, because sometimes I mainly wanted to focus on the look of the wedding and not so much the entertainment. There were several challenges to this project as it was my first wedding I have planned, but I have learned a lot along the way. Now I have a better idea of how many elements go into planning an entire wedding.

Outdoor Corporate/Winter Event

Posted By Patricia Figueroa, Sunday, December 11, 2011
This was one of the events that I coordinated in a penthouse apartment for a corporate event. It was done in the middle of winter and we wanted to utilize the outdoor balcony since we wanted guests to see the beautiful view of New York City. We bought outdoor patio heaters with tables so that guests can sit under and have a drink or smoke outdoors without freezing and we also included seating that was elegant yet functional. The lighting was designed to give a warm, yet romantic feel to the cold outdoors and it also provided for great conversation.

LWPI Students at Wagner College Meet Preston Bailey

Posted By Abby Langston, Wednesday, April 27, 2011

A group of lucky LWPI students at Wagner College in New York, Richmond County, recently had the opportunity to meet and tour the New York City offices of one of the wedding industry’s most elite members, Preston Bailey. The students’ instructor, Marissa Mortimer, the owner of Lavish Occasions in Staten Island, N.Y., says the trip was not only an unbelievable experience for her students but for herself, as well.

"When (Lovegevity’s) Wedding Planning Institute launched their partnership with the fabulous Preston Bailey, I was thrilled. When I navigated through his course I sat inspired by every word, image and idea. I literally pictured how I would discuss each aspect of his business in my classroom. I had a small glimmer of hope that I would be able to bring my students to his office, and though he is such a busy and celebrated person my dream came true today and with a down-to-earth, informative and patient event designer. His staff prepared a beautiful statement piece for us that was imaged as a huge design board, with florals stating ‘Welcome Wagner College’,” Mortimer shares on her blog.

Mortimer’s students are currently enrolled in Preston Bailey’s Signature Wedding and Event Design course through LWPI. During their meeting with Preston they were able to ask him any question they wanted about his business and experience in the wedding industry. Preston says on his blog that he is "so inspired by other wedding and event designers, but especially those that are young and just starting out. Their perspective is fresh, and their enthusiasm is contagious. The students I met last week were no exception. It was such a pleasure to chat with them and hear their plans and ideas.”

Mortimer and her students were invited to meet with Preston in his personal office. He asked the students questions about themselves, and he offered them a look into his background and career. "In a world where today so much ‘wedding fluff’ can be found, it was so refreshing to have open and honest dialog with a superstar,” Mortimer says on her blog.

The students also got a behind-the-scenes tour of Preston’s offices, giving them a look at where all the magic happens! They met with several of his staff and got to see first-hand the creativity and hard work that goes into his dazzling events. Natalie Licini, a New York and New Jersey wedding photographer, joined the group to make sure that Mortimer and her students have something tangible to remember their extraordinary visit with Preston!

Mortimer has been teaching wedding- and event design courses for about four years, and finds that introducing her students to top-notch vendors and industry leaders is a great way to get her students’ careers off on the right foot. "You are only as good as your vendors and that’s why I only work with the best in their fields,” she says. Her students in this class included: Zahra Alaouie, Yosmery Brito, Felicia Gibson, Krystal Erinosho, Mariya Molduvanova, Pauline Peramuna, and Tania Salmeron.

This summer, Wagner College will hold a Wedding Planning and Design Seminar where Mortimer will discuss Preston Bailey's Signature Wedding and Event Design course, wedding- and event-planning certification, and helpful hints on planning a truly memorable wedding. For more information, contact Mortimer at or Wagner College, 718-390-3221.
