While advantages of destination weddings are numerous, they’re beyond
the scope of this post, and at the same time they appear to be a threat for
local wedding planners.
Well, they don’t have to be. Why not turn them into an opportunity to
create more revenue, and to enhance your wedding planner business, or even
specialize in them.
Let’s look at the options ;
Many resort hotels all over the world have an event manager, who usually
is also the person in charge of weddings. Many offer (all-in) packages, and
there is little or no business opportunity there, since packages are widely
available on the internet.
In most popular wedding destinations there are one or more small
weddingplanner agencies, or private entrepreneurs, living and working in the
area, with a personal approach to wedding planning, just like you have. What’s more, often they are interested in cooperation with wedding
planners in various countries. Now, that’s an opportunity !
As you know, one of the biggest challenges in successful wedding
planning is to know, understand and feel exactly the wishes, preferences,
colors, styles, etc of the clients.

Why limit your business to ‘traditional wedding planning’, while there
are so many more opportunities out there ?
Renewal of the vows, same sex weddings, divorce celebrations, second-chance
symbolic ceremonies for couples whose ‘real’ wedding due to circumstances,
money issues, etc was no success, christening parties, etc, etc
Be creative, and more important, be pro-active and post on relevant
forums, blogs, etc
And yes, it’s perfectly possible to combine this extra revenue stream with
the previous one, since these types of celebrations are very often celebrated
3 ) Event planning
I’m referring here to B2B or B2C event planning, especially for small or
medium sized businesses who often do not have the HR resources to do it themselves,
nor the financial resources to hire a ‘big’ event planner agency.
It takes some marketing efforts, especially because you’re fishing in a
totally different pond, but it’s certainly worthwhile.
And even here you can offer destination event packages.
