Course Review

Posted By Tiffany Smith, Tuesday, April 30, 2019

Let me just say this class was WAY more involved than I anticipated. It should have been called, "So you want to be wedding planner? Here's how to start and run your own business"! It is a very comprehensive course. You will have all the tools you need to get your business up and running once you complete the program.

I was fortunate enough to take the course in a classroom setting and have made some great friends and valuable connections. Our instructor, Shamica Sweat, was fantastic! She was a great speaker and imparted so much knowledge to her students. She was patient and kind.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in transitioning their career into event planning; especially if you can take it in a classroom setting. Good luck!

CWEP Project 3 Grand Opening

Posted By Sherry S. Boudreaux (Fortenberry), Monday, April 29, 2019

Hello, This is Sherry Boudreaux from Katy Texas.  This is my CWEP Project 3 mood board showcasing my grand opening.

Simply Sherry Custom Weddings and Events is set to launch local Bridal seminars and mini expo. Our Grand Opening Event is May 16th at Agave Estates, 1250 FM 1463, Katy TX 77494 at 7pm. The cost of the event is $25 per couple or $15 single tickets.

Sherry offers newly engaged couples the opportunity to meet and greet local vendors in the wedding industry.  We will play games, register to win door prizes, and raffle off discount packages. As well as have a Q & A about how to plan a successful wedding and what that looks like for those on a budget. Participating vendors will have tips on what's hot and trending for 2019-2020. Each vendor has donated items for the newly engaged couple to go home with. Sherry has pledged 25% of all proceeds to be donated to National Charity League and directed to the Ballard House to help families be near the ones they love while fighting cancer.

I will be advertising on social media, local church and community message boards and bulletins.  I have a press release that will go out through local newspaper, TV and radio. We will send out save the date cards and follow up with direct email to register through our website.

Upon arrival, our guest will be see a Luxury Limousine or two, parked at the valet stand where they will leave the keys and enter the gates at Agave Estates.  Once in the door each will be greeted with a glass of champagne or signature drink from venue, asked to fill out the profile sheet and take a ticket for the drawings.  Each couple will receive a fun game card that will serve as an icebreaker. The evening will start for them with this fun ice breaker that will allow them to mingle and get to know other guest as well as the vendors. This along with the beautifully decorated room of red/gold/black color scheme designed by our florist Regina Gust Designs. I have arranged for them to sample the flavorful hors d’oeuvres and sweet petit fours from our preferred cake and catering partners.  Our DJ, Johnny Black Entertainment will be enhancing and helping create a mood for fun as he spins music from all genres as well as the top wedding songs of 2019 .

As the evening progresses we will allow each vendor to speak briefly about their product and services, taking small breaks for door prizes. At the conclusion of our evening every guest leaves with a survival kit that will include a stress ball, important tips on how to survive the engagement handout, sweet treats for the ride home just to name a few.  Each attendee will receive a handwritten thank you in the mail showing our appreciation for coming. I will also follow up with those B2B that made appointments for their one-on-one consultation to plan their big day. Again, Our mission is to create one of a kind events that allow our clients to make memories that last a lifetime and span generations.

CWEP Project 1

Posted By Adriana Jimenez, Saturday, April 27, 2019

Project 1 – Blog Submission

My name is Adriana Jimenez.  I live in Arlington, TX.  I am a wife, a mother and a grandmother.  I currently work as a Customer Service Coordinator, but my true calling has always been event planning.  I have always loved to design and create centerpieces, and decorations for parties.  Planning parties is fun and it will be an exciting career.

I come from a family of creative minds and it has passed on to my daughter who will be my business partner when we launch our wedding and event planning business.  She has been taking this course with me and it has been a lot of fun and a great learning experience for both of us.  We have always wanted to become Certified Wedding and Event Planners and our dream is finally coming true.  It has always been our plan to own a family business.  It is something we have been talking about for a long time.   Becoming certified planners is a huge stepping stone towards our goal.

Getting started on Project 1 was a challenge for me because most of the course talks about weddings and my Project 1 is not a wedding.  I am planning a "Beauty and the Beast" theme Quinceanera.  It was hard to get started, but once I put my ideas on paper it was a fun project.  It helps me realize how much work it takes to be a professional planner and how much research is involved in putting the perfect event together.  Taking this course was the best decision for me.  I am finally doing what I have always wanted to do.

My name is Monica Cruz Hernandez. I used to plan and direct social events as a hobby. I decided to study to become a Certified Wedding Planner. My experience in the course has been amazing. This Project 3 is about the Grand Opening Event of my company Illusion Weddings & Events. The grand opening it's a reflection of the elegant, fun and semi formal Puerto Rican social events.

The view from the rooftop, ask for a simple and delicate decoration, including flowers, different lights, mason jars and paper lanterns. Project 1 was a great way to play around with Pinterest and all it has to offer. I chose the theme of an Enchanted Forest wedding for my mood board. I included elements and accessories that captured the feeling of being in a beautifully forest with plenty of twinkling lights and greenery to set a very romantic setting.

Posted By Shelly Schuetz, Friday, April 26, 2019
I've thoroughly enjoyed the other students that I met during the CWEP class held on the Virginia Commonwealth University campus.  This course has given me a ton of knowledge to utilize in my current role as a program coordinator with VCU.  This course has also inspired me to continue planning for the next steps in my educational and professional journey.  Kim Letteer was a great instructor with plenty of knowledge and connections in the wedding and event industry in the Richmond-Metro area.  I've also completed the Corporate Event Planning course with Lovegevity.

Hey everyone, my name is Juhita and I live in Auburn,AL. I have loved every part of this course and I am so excited to be finally done and use whatever I learned into action. This course has taught me so much about the industry and it seems like it is alot but if you love what you do than you will Never be working another day. Through this course, I learned about the strong work ethic needed to be an event planner. I gained so much insight from each chapter and all the instructors. The biggest takeaway for me was realizing what a huge network the wedding and event planning industry is and I can not wait to be apart of this industry.

The Pygmalion Effect in Couples becoming all of who we can be By Linda and Charlie Bloom

This article starts by telling a myth about a young sculptor name Pygmalion.  Pygmalion did not want to marry and was skeptical of women.  He felt that his love for “art was enough to sustain his passion” (Bloom p. 1).  Pygmalion began to sculpt his idea of a perfect woman, which he fell in love with treating it as a real person.  Pygmalion found himself asking the goddess to make his sculpture his living bride.  Therefore, it was.

Based on the thought “that reality can be influenced by the expectations of others” (Bloom p. 5).  Professor Robert Rosenthal perform an experiment that was based on per-test and post-test IQ scores 6th grade students.  Professor Robert’s theory was proven correct.  Mr & Mrs Bloom believe that this theory also works in marriages that your belief in one another can have positive outcomes.

This title really drew me in.  After readying the conclusion instead of the example of the schoolchildren it would have been nice to see, this theory results from a couple’s point of view.  I may not agree with mythologies but I do agree that if you support someone and believe that best for them it can and will produce positive results for the individual.
