Project #1 Blog Post

Updated: Sunday, February 18, 2018
Hello, my name is Alicia Aldana. I am from Fullerton, California. I am currently employed at a country club in hopes to move up as a coordinator. I coach varsity softball every day, I love that I can give back to my local high school. My goal after this schooling is to get a job as a coordinator and move on to having my ow business. I love planning events and I love helping people. This career suits me perfectly. My experience through this course has been bit confusing, so many links lead to one another so I am trying to figure out what is it exactly that I have to do. I enjoyed the project because it made me feel like I actually planned this wedding. The couple I came up with are very vintage in their likings, they are very calm and love the victorian style.

CEWP Assignment 1-3 - Rustic Camp Wedding

Posted By Maggie Zeman (Yedinak), Sunday, February 18, 2018
Updated: Monday, February 19, 2018

Hello my name is Maggie Zeman and I am currently an I.T. professional.  I am currently living in the western Chicago suburbs.  My plan is to change careers and work for an event planner to start and then open my own business downstate.

Rustic Camp Wedding does not mean casual dress.  It means outdoors with a rustic cabin as the blank canvas and nature as a back drop to an elegant and FUN wedding.  Theme colors are yellow and grey with many sunflowers and baby's breath.  Music is Beatles instrumental's to incorporate the brides deceased father during the wedding vows.  Dress is semi-formal.

Menu is simple fair of farm to table, hot dogs and hamburgers (veggie burgers too!) with all the fixings, along with salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, etc, at the request of the bride.  Small cake for the cake cutting ceremony and plenty of cupcakes and cookies.  Beer and wine is available due to restrictions of the camp ground.  Plenty of water, ice tea and lemonade which are the bride and groom's favorite.  A camp fire to make smores.

Snacks of popcorn, vegetables, fruit and cheese and crackers served during wedding party photos.  Games (bags, ring toss, lawn bunco, etc.) are setup on the lawn during this time and used throughout the event.  The bride and groom should encourage use by participating in a few friendly games with guests after the meal.

The DJ is the master of ceremony and will handle introduces of the bridal party to the anticipated introduction of Mr. and Mrs.  First dance is handled right before the food is served along with the cutting of the cake.

The idea is to have FUN just as you have fun each day together!

Beach Destination Wedding

Posted By Tamija Johnson, Thursday, February 15, 2018

During Project on, my best friend and I were day dreaming abouther wedding, her must have and all of her "please make sure that my wedding is"...list. Surprisingly her don't wants list was much longer than her must have, so what better way to start this course then with her day!!!

Must have #1-Destination wedding: this ensured must have #2 of a small guest list could be accomplished. She chose Tahiti, indian summer colors, and no shoes!!!

Must have #2- small and intimate: small wedding party of 4(six including the bride and groom) and max 50 guests. wedding and reception right there on the beach.

Must have #3- FUN FUN FUN. she requested lots of champagne, loud music, and hours of partying.

Not a long list of requirements and I can't wait to see how it all comes together.

Mountain Top Wedding Venue

Posted By Deana Pearson, Wednesday, February 14, 2018
Updated: Wednesday, February 14, 2018

This beautiful wedding is situated a top Mt. Pisgah Arboretum in the couple’s hometown of Eugene Oregon. Incorporating simple elegance and earthly tones along with the natural elements that decorate the surroundings showing off the couples strong connection with nature. Casual attire is suggested for guest as they can explore the many trails on the grounds.

A outdoor ceremony is held among peaceful trees, along side the rambling river. This brings a warm zen vibe. Also, bringing nature to life is the live greenery, ferns, peace lily's and white hydrangea's that decorate the rustic barn reception area.

There will be two food trucks on the grounds. One will be serving beverages and local crafts beers and another will have a variety of coffee drinks. High top tables surround the food truck area for guests to enjoy appetizers and drinks before moving into the pavilion area for a buffet dinner.  Round tables of 8 are set around a beautiful simple tiered cake decorated with love.

Beyond the open glass pavilion doors lays a large patio where guest can mingle and dance. Ton's of white fairy lights and large lantern balls illuminate the trees as a local fun band keep the guest dancing thru the night.

CWEP Project #3

Posted By Aimee Mueller, Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Hello my name is Aimee Mueller. I am 24 years old and from St. Maries, Idaho. I am so excited to finally be able to pursue a career as a certified wedding planner.  This class have been such an amazing opportunity, and I look forward to seeing where taking advantage of everything that I have learned over these several months takes me.

My grand opening is open to the public, after all what better way to get to know the best vendors than by meeting them in person?  This project was very fun, but also very difficult at times, but in turn helped me to get to know my community better which in turn will help me with connections down the road.

CWEP Project 3

Posted By Rachelle Chenoweth, Monday, February 12, 2018

For this project, I planned the grand opening of RC Events. RC Events is a wedding and event planning company and is partnering with Seven Oaks Wedding and Event venue to host a Grand Opening Open House for newly engaged couples looking for a wedding venue with planning services.

Planning the grand opening event for this project started to get me excited about planning my business’s real grand opening after receiving my certification in this course. This project has given me many ideas of concepts I would like to incorporate for my own business. For this project, RC Events is partnering with a local wedding venue to offer an Open House to newly engaged couples. The Open House will be held at the Seven Oaks venue in Houston, Texas on March 31, 2018 from 2-5pm. It will feature some of the area’s most sought after vendors and will give newly engaged couples the opportunity to tour Seven Oaks venue and learn about RC Events’ services and packages.

CWEP Project 2

Posted By Rachelle Chenoweth, Monday, February 12, 2018

Hello, my name is Rachelle and I am currently working as a Project Manager in Houston, TX, but I am excited to be on this journey of opening a business as a certified wedding and event planner. I’ve been planning events for years for family and friends and recently decided to start doing it professionally. I feel that this project in particular will be extremely beneficial in getting my business started. Most of the documents compiled for this project are directly applicable to what I hope to achieve for my business. The package I put together includes all the information prospective clients will need for planning their wedding: wedding party checklists, budget worksheets, marriage license and civil ceremony requirements, preferred vendor lists and relationship education information. It also includes everything a prospective client would like to know about my services: information about the company, packages and pricing, and a contract for “day of” services. I feel confident the information compiled for this project will help attract new customers and jump-start my business.

CWEP Project 2

Posted By Chantalle Schultz-Rathbun, Monday, February 12, 2018

This was a really fun project to put together. Its really starting to click that I will be a certified event planner and putting a business plan together is key. I have written business plans before and I know it still has more work to be done before its officially executed.

I will probably change the name before all the paperwork is legal and ready to go.My saying will be "Your Vision, Your Day, Your Way." MY business vision is to make ones vision into reality

I fell in love with event planning because I enjoy seeing people happy. I have always wanted to help people (but am not fit to be a nurse or doctor) so event planning is where I have found myself.

My keys to success are: patience, knowledge, flexibility, open mindedness, ingenuity, and creativity.

  • Patience is very important, especially with difficult clients. Being patient, calm, and collected will show your client you know how to handle things, and will get it done. Patience is needed to listen until you fully understand what the clients wants and needs are.

  • Knowledge of the industry is a key for any business. Knowing where the clients come from and what they desire is also very  important to successfully plan their event.

  • Flexibility is for anything that is thrown our way. Being flexible will allow us to handle things that may come up, or changes wanted at the last moment.

  • Open mindedness is needed to understand what a client wants and truly listen to them so we can make it a reality.

  • Ingenuity to plan and create the event. Ingenuity is important for making each event unique and solving problems.

  • Creativity to see what goes together, design it, and implement it.

I will eventually add more packages and services. One thing I want to implement is floral design since I have done so much of it and have taken an overview class. I think this is a service that may help set me apart especially for the clients trying to save some money.

CWEP Project 1

Updated: Tuesday, February 13, 2018

Hi! My name is Rachelle and I'm from Houston, Texas. I have been working as a Project Manager for years, but I have been planning parties and events for family and friends on the side for years and have been told numerous times I should do it full time, so I am finally following my true passion and making the leap!

I was surprised at how much I learned through this course, not only about planning events but also about owning a business. It was also helpful to go through the process of planning an entire wedding for this project. The couple I planned this wedding for are Hailey and Jacob. They both share a love of wine and had both their first date and engagement at a vineyard. It was only fitting to make the theme of their wedding a vineyard theme as well. I had so much fun planning their wedding and know it will be exactly what they envisioned for their special day!

Project 1.3

Posted By Magdalena Cuestas, Monday, February 12, 2018
Updated: Monday, February 12, 2018
For my board I chose pictures from my daughter's wedding that I planned. Her dream was a beach wedding but she decided on a dock with an ocean view. Both bride and groom love Disney, Superman, and the color blue so we created a wedding with those themes. The bridesmaids all wore identical cobalt blue dresses while the groomsmen wore cobalt blue ties with the Superman insignia. Their cake was truly one of a kind with Mickey Mouse details and Superman seemingly flying out from underneath it. We created a wall of lights behind the bride and groom's table. Blue details in the flowers, chairs, and center pieces brought it all together.

Project 1.3

Posted By Samantha Ferrigno, Saturday, February 10, 2018

Project 1.3

Couple: My couple is newly engaged, newly together. They met online. He is the Navy and she is a part time worker at Disneyland. He was born in California but moved to Texas as a young kid, so he considers himself a Texan by heart, and country boy. She was born and raised in Southern California, she went to school in Chicago for hospitality management but finished at home online. They met after he got stationed out here and she went looking for some new friends. They hit it off right away. They connected on her love for the country and his experience.

Style: country mixed with Disney

Colors: eggplant, lavender, sky blue, carnation pink

A8 Formula:

Bridal Attire/Accessories: Sweetheart neckline, lace, mermaid style dress, silver pearls, elbow length veil, cowboy boots, pearl earrings/necklace, vintage headpiece, navy blue cameo garters, natural make up, garden bouquet, realistic curls. Groom Attire/Accessories: Navy Dress Whites, Change into dress shirt jeans and boots, small boutonniere. Bridal Party Attire/Accessories: The girls are picking their own dresses, MOH-is in eggplant, BMs-lavender, flowers are white tulips, the boys will be in white dress shirts and jeans, FG- will be in pink, RB-same as groomsmen, the couples dogs will be walking down the aisle as well. Parents Attire/Accessories: MOB will be in sky blue, the FOB will be in eggplant, Grooms family it is up to them.

Anticipation: The couple’s invites were sent out early for long distance, simple invites through vistaprint, the venue is a vacation home in the San Diego Mountains

Arrival: The couple will already be at the venue so no transportation or guest valet, there will be two signs to direct their guests, seating will be around the tables already, it’s a small processional since the bridal party is small, the arch is a garden arch with some tapestry.

Atmosphere: the venue is out in the woods, with nature surrounding the whole event, it is a simple together wedding, and lighting will be off the house and candles on the tables

Appetite: Tulsa Rib Company will be catering the vent. The bar will be a full bar that the couple likes to drink. Cake is done by nothing bundt cakes with a spread of cookies and donuts.

Amusement: Music will be played off the groom’s phone from a play list they both creates, first dance, father daughter dance.

Appreciation: The bridal party will have their own hangers as their gifts, every guest gets cookies and donuts.

Short Essay:

The couple choose this theme because of the bride’s love for Disney and their love for the country rustic feel they both love. They wanted it to be simple and easy to set up themselves. Nothing to grand that it would over whelmed their families and take away from the venue. This event will be one of the many weddings their families will be enjoying.

This wedding is for the families of the bride and groom and for themselves. The families are from all over the world. Part of the bride’s family is from Denmark, but most of the family is California. Her sister is the maid of honor while the groom’s family is part of the bridal party. His family is mainly in Texas but still many all over. Some in South Carolina, Nevada, Florida, and Arizona.

The wedding will be taking place in the San Diego Mountains in the afternoon in June. The perfect lighting for the weddings but it is going to be warm for everyone. There will have to be plenty of water for everyone.

CWEP Project 1

Posted By Katrina Pridgen, Friday, February 9, 2018

My name is Katrina Pridgen!  I'm originally from Chicago, IL but I moved to MS when I went to college and have been stuck (by choice) on southern soil since then!  I accepted a job and moved to TX after receiving my Masters degree.

For most of my adult life, I just knew I was meant to be this amazing accountant that I am now.  But then, I grew up and I began to understand what passion is and I began to unlock mine!  I've planned numerous parties, baby showers and other social events for friends and family.  I even take lead and plan a lot of our team events in my current career.

In 2017, I decided that I was going to actively pursue my passion of planning and this has led me to CWEP!  This course has opened my eyes to how much more I have to learn.  It's been great expanding my knowledge on some things and receiving new knowledge on material in which I was clueless about.

The wedding I'm presenting/planning is for such a sweet and country couple!  They are both from Mississippi and country to the core so I wasn't surprised when they chose the National Heard Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney, TX for their big day.  The wedding decor will consist of peach & ivory tones with rose gold accents.

April will be here fast and I'm excited for their big day and mine!

CWEP Project 1.3

Project 1.3 I went for a more rustic themed wedding, something along the lines that I would like one day. I went for a mauve/purple tone because I feel that it is a color that will go with every season. I love rustic themes because it is something that everyone can afford to do, because it is very simple and many things can be diyed. This is a theme that can be taken many different ways, which is my favorite part! I loved this project because I was able to look at so many pictures and themes, which made my ideas run wild.

CWEP Project 1

Posted By Jena Botto, Wednesday, February 7, 2018
Hello, my name is Jena and I live in Plant City, Florida. I have gone to school for two different things, but the second I started interning with a wedding planning company I knew that this was the career for me. Family is everything to me and I have a goddaughter that lives in Canada, so destination weddings are for sure a thing for me! My bride and groom are Michelle and Tim, they have decided not to choose a theme for their evening fall wedding, but instead just a color scheme. Their colors are burgundy and rose gold, and the one request from my clients is that there is beautiful floral arrangements in every aspect of their wedding...even the cake!

CWEP Project 1

Posted By Chantalle Schultz-Rathbun, Wednesday, February 7, 2018

I have known Kayla for sometime now and when she got engaged in November 2017 I could not be happier for her. I was thrilled when she called me up and said, “Hey I need you to help me plan my wedding.” So thus began the journey of me planning her wedding.

Kayla and her fiancé met in Savannah, Ga and being from two different places it makes sense to have a low country wedding! They are both beach lovers so I knew it needed to be a venue near the ocean and Savannah, GA.

Not everything is put together for the wedding, meaning not all vendor contracts are signed, but I have everything outlined on which vendors to look at and restrictions of the venue.

It has been so fun laying out Kayla’s vision for her. This class has really helped me layout everything so when she looks at it everything is clear and precise.

Her wedding is going to be elegant and romantic with the salt marshes surrounding the venue and all the Spanish oaks. The couple has been so easy to work with and I think it helps that its like a destination wedding since neither of them live in the area of the venue.

This project has helped me organize my thoughts and ideas for people and actually lay them out. I still have a lot left to learn but I am very pleased

CWEP Project 1

Posted By Arielle Maly, Wednesday, February 7, 2018
Updated: Friday, February 9, 2018

Hello Everyone! My name is Arielle, I'm from the suburbs of Chicago, and love being creative and making others smile. While on my way to becoming a certified event planner, I hope to gain additional knowledge and experience that will enable me to finally enjoy a career that is exciting as my current and previous jobs as a banker and estimator (calculating numbers all day) is unsatisfying. My experience in this course so far has strayed me to be a sponge and soak up everything I can.

For my first project I’m working with a couple that are planning on getting married next summer. They are very outdoorsy people with a love for fishing and nature and are looking for a rustic, semi-formal, lakeside wedding in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

The groom is pretty laid back and looking for comfortable attire, while the bride wants to be comfortable and still manage to have everyone and everything stay classy. To keep the groom and groomsmen’s attire rustic but semi-formal a simple combo of denim jeans, a shirt with vest and tie works perfectly (the groom can choose to wear a jacket). The bride loves purple, doesn’t want her girls looking too country, and hasn’t decided whether the wedding will be during the day or evening so I went with wisteria for the dresses with simple bridesmaid flowers using baby’s breath along with a bridal bouquet filled with greenery and different shades of purple to pull it all together. To set a mood, my board shows a day and a night wedding suggestion.

Both being hands on in wood crafts, they want to maintain a low budget by making a lot of their own decor, so in my moodboard I’ve included: wood and floral ideas, lace and burlap, shepard hooks with mason jars, and even a reception seating table arrangement with fishing lures to embrace their passion for fishing.

With the reception outdoors in a tent. I leaned towards a buffet serving style and a classic wine barrel bar; these tend to take up less space, keeps a rustic but classy feel, cuts costs by not requiring servers, allows for several food choices, and offers free flowing movement between cocktails and dinner. To top it off, I’ve presented a birch tree cake concept and "Thank You’s" in the form of seed packets to pull in a touch of the Northwoods- let love grow.

Assignment 18.6 Blog Post

Posted By Rachelle Chenoweth, Sunday, February 4, 2018

I am so excited to be nearing the completion of this course and receiving my certification. I have been dreaming of being a professional wedding and event planner for years and finally decided to make the leap with the support of my amazing husband. After planning numerous parties, showers, and eventually my own wedding, I got the itch to start doing it full-time. I have been working as a Project Manager for years, and I feel the skills I have from that career will easily transfer to wedding and event planning. However, I needed to learn more about the wedding industry and about opening a business, and I feel like the content of this course is exactly what I needed to jumpstart my wedding and event planning business. Although the course was more time-consuming than I originally anticipated, I now feel prepared to start working in the industry and am confident that I have the knowledge to be successful.
