Great Experience!!!

Posted By Omolara Bankole, Monday, October 15, 2012
"Wedding and events planning is something I have always wanted to do, watching the movie the wedding planner convinced me even more. When I decided to get in the wedding industry, I didn’t know where to start from, and then I met a real live planner who encouraged me and helped me follow my dreams. A few years after I started my business I knew that I needed a certification that would teach me the ins and outs of the business. So when I started the process of certification I knew that The Wedding Planning Institute would give me the knowledge and skills to help every bride’s wedding dream come true. Longevity has taught me so much about the wedding industry that I can help my brides and clients with the most important time of their lives with minimal amount of stress and frustration. In addition because of my passion for planning wedding, I can bring joy and happiness to every bride and client i meet.
thank you for this experience!!

My expectations for the Wedding Planner Class

Posted By Katja Dietze, Monday, September 24, 2012

I am not sure what I expected, when I signed up for the Wedding Planner class. I have to admit that I am learning every time I sit down and do my assignments. I worked as an event planner for several years and  I have a history starting more than 20 years ago planning events in School and  as a Manager of a  cultural center. I also have a training with a degree in  Hotel Service and Marketing.

When I started around 6 years ago to plan Weddings I suddenly had sometimes sleepless nights. Looking back I have to admit, it was very brave to be a wedding planner without any specified training for that field. There is a huge difference between corporate and wedding events. Many of the subjects I am reading and learning through this class are very much wedding specific and I was not aware of those.

I got many excellent reviews from previous clients, so I must have done something right before but I am sure my future clients will profit from what I am learning now.

I just submitted my first project.

Finally finding the path of my passion!

Posted By Alegria ~. Sita, Sunday, September 23, 2012

Hello there LWPI colleagues!

I have been a planner since I was 13.  A leader in Student Government, I was busy organizing events for the school and larger community, working with vendors, press, and organizations to produce news worthy events.  For years, I took for granted how naturally planning and organizing were for me... and now, at 34, I've decided to grant my childhood skills worthy of a fun, creative, and service-based lifestyle.

Weddings are very specific events that require knowledge in many different areas.  I decided to join LWPI to minimize my learning curve in organizing one of the most special days in a couple's life together, so that I could be the best possible planner a couple could hire.  I have more than been satisfied with my experience.  I have learned the ins and outs of running a successful business, traditions and practices for weddings under a wide range of conditions, and have familiarized myself with industry leaders, role models, and icons.

My mentor, Elika Almeida, has been incredibly supportive throughout my entire journey with the program.  I can tell I have an ally in the business, thanks to her.  She has given me inside, experienced tips and wisdom, assisted me in problem-solving or reflecting on details of event planning, and overall lent me guidance as I start my business.

The curriculum has been exactly what I was needing from a school.  I love the technologically savvy format of the online curriculum.  It is user friendly.  The content exceeded my expectations in covering a wide range of topics that have helped me.  The assignments were applicable, and useful in setting up my professional documents.

The constructive feedback I have for the school is:  improve communication between administration, students, and mentors.  On several occasions, when I had questions that my mentor did not know the answers, there was a delay or no response from administration.  Similarly, I did not receive responses to a couple of my question for administration.  It would be helpful if this kink were ironed out for the efficient completion of the course requirements.

Other than that, Lovegevity has far exceeded my expectations, and I will certainly refer this course to others looking for a certification in wedding and event planning.  I will also be enrolling in additional courses in the near future.

THANK YOU LOVEGEVITY!!!!!

LWPI and Association of Bridal Consultants

Posted By Sonya House-Jenkins, Monday, September 17, 2012

As a student nearing the completion of the Wedding and Event Planning course I am so excited that LWPI and the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) are collectively supporting students in the special events industry. I've been a member of the Association of Bridal Consultant (ABC) for almost four years. This organization has provided me with continuing education, business resources, and helped me grow as a professional. I have met so many outstanding professionals who are ABC members from all over the world.

I believe in ABC so much that I have spearheaded the ABC Local Networking Group (LNG) in San Antonio. I am now the ABC LNG Director for San Antonio .

We meet monthly to network, attend an educational session, and tour the host venue. We also hold seminars for beginners and seasoned members.

Every year in November ABC hosts its annual conference. This year it will be held in Denver, Colorado. The conference consists of educational seminars, fabulous decor, networking opportunities, and wonderful off-site events. I look forward to attending each year.

This year I am honored to be one of the session speakers. I'll be speaking on 'Military Weddings' and explaining the unique characteristics on the military couple.

To join the association and sign up to go to the conference or get more information go to www.BridalAssn.com. You'll be glad you did.

Recent Wedding I Planned in July

Posted By Cheryl Lenoir, Wednesday, August 29, 2012
When I planned my first wedding, I never imagined it would turn out to be a career that I'd come to love, enjoy and have a passion for.  I'm really excited to move forward and start my own wedding planning event business.  Some of the unique things that I have been interested in offering future clients that are a must have is their own personalized wedding planning organizer for their wedding.  Its so important nowadays to be organized and prepared for what lies ahead, and getting a head start will help the wedding process of planning and organizing so much easier

My experience as a student of the LWPI

Posted By Celia R. Yu, Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Dear fabulous colleagues,

When I first logged into my online student course account, I felt tears in my eyes immediately because of the overwhelming chapter readings, assignments, and a 300-question final exam were waiting for me! Because of my strong passion in wedding planning, I kicked myself hard into the professional wedding planning education world. As the reading got more and more interesting, I couldn’t believe I finished all the chapters and chapter quizzes in 3 days! My brain was energized by all the professional wedding planning techniques and information the course has covered. What I have learned from the course also made me feel like I am equipped with a powerful weapon to take over the wedding planning business world. I am sure we all like to think big and dream big. I wish the best for all of us and make fantasizing about living in the big money trees a reality!

Warmest regards,

Celia Yu

Navy and gold centerpiece

Posted By Jaclyn Afeld, Tuesday, August 28, 2012

This is a picture of the center piece I created at a friends wedding. She and her husband are in the coast guard and wanted to to have different blues and golds for the colors and had the ceremony on the back deck of an Seafood restaurant with the reception inside. Since it was on the water and they are coasties, we wanted to incorporate fish into the centerpieces. Other than the photographer being 30mins late because she could not find the location, and no one being able to hear what the bride and groom were saying because it was so windy, (which also made it difficult to do the sand ceremony), everything went off without a hitch.

My experience as a student

Posted By Shernell Thomas, Saturday, August 25, 2012

Making the decision to take this class was a great choice that I made. However, I never imagine that it would entail all of this work.  In spite of the many assignments, I can truly say that I have gained a better understanding of the industry and have acquired additional skills to help me in my business as well as in my current position as Event Coordinator at my church.

It was a pleasure getting to know my  instructor and classmates who have since become my colleagues.  Good luck to all of you who took the summer course at Lehman College. I am looking forward to working with you in the near future.

Hello Blog World,

I've attached a link to a slide show of a wedding I planned in April 2012. It was my first wedding ever and I had a blast with the bride and groom planning the whole wedding from start to finish. The theme was travel and the colors were pink and grey. The wedding took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Monterey, California on a beautiful sunny day.

LWPI - CWEP Lehman College 2012 Summer Session

Posted By Jacqueline Vazquez, Saturday, August 11, 2012
Updated: Saturday, August 11, 2012

LWPI-CWEP Lehman College Summer 2012 Session

What an amazing class. From the first day to the end, these ladies were eager and ready to learn. First day I greeted everyone and told them that I was there to share with them about the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the industry. I want my students to know from the very beginning that it is an awesome career, but there are so many things they need to know about the industry before being a successful planner. The goal is to work together with all the wedding and event professionals to make the event a success. Patience is one important feature they learned, and that knowledge is power.
Much success to these beautiful ladies. Thank you to Darryl Gaines, Groom Expert and Planner, and Lynn Jawitz, Florisan Fine European Floristry for sharing information on contracts and the importance of protecting yourself.

My Experience

Posted By Kimberly Doughty, Wednesday, August 8, 2012
My Experience with LWPI has been great. I planned my own wedding last year and i loved doing it so i decided to go for it and try to do it as a career. When i first singed up and started working on assignments things were a little confusing with how to submit assignments and then came the projects and it got confusing but i was able to get back on track once i had talked with my Online Mentor. She has been awesome with this whole process for me. She made it alot easier to understand what to do on the assignments that i was having trouble on. I like being able to do things online and not have to go into a classroom to do this. I now have to take my final and i cant wait to start using everything i learned in this course to expand my business. I will definitely let people now how great this course is!

New Appreciation

Posted By Erin Wessel, Wednesday, August 8, 2012
Updated: Wednesday, August 8, 2012

I am not one of those girls who grew up planning every detail of her future wedding. I was sort of a tomboy and I spent more time planning daring adventures in the jungle than anything else.  As such, when  I came to this class I had more of other types of event planning in mind and I wasn't sure what to expect from the wedding side of things and was even a little apprehensive.

I was pleasantly surprised, however, with the depth of knowledge this class provided on the subject and I have to say I have gained a new appreciation for wedding planning as a profession and as an expression of creativity. I was also pleased to find out that weddings could be combined with my childhood dreams of jungle safaris either through destination weddings or through a themed wedding. I had no idea how inclusive this event could be and it is nice to know that planners are excited to go above and beyond to incorporate the interests of all their clients. It has made me rethink my plans for what type of events to include in my business and weddings might just have to make an appearance in a big way after all.
