Project 2: The Business of Weddings

Posted By Camille Burley, Monday, November 5, 2012

This is my Project 2: The Business of weddings. I took a different approach to this project. Rather than doing a power point  I made a Bridal Jump-start Book to display all my work. I will bind the book and bring it to my appointment and if the couple books their wedding with me, they can take the book with them.

CWEP Project #3, Plan Your Grand Opening by Mariam Gulistan

Posted By Elika Almeida (Queiros), Monday, November 5, 2012

Mariam Gulistan is one of my very talented students who is practicing what she is learning at LWPI in Dubai.  She has planned her grand opening and in Project #3, she shares with us some of the very important details she had to incorporate into the planning process.  I am posting her project as an example for those students who are struggling with Project #3.  There were a few things I highlighted for Mariam that she needs to still incorporate but overall, she did a fabulous job incorporating the A6 formula.  Very elegant presentation.

This has been a long and sometimes overwhelming journey, but I'm so happy to be nearly finished! There have been some pauses and some setbacks, but it has been SO worth it to be fulfilling a long time dream. Many of us have other jobs, classes, and/or families and it takes true dedication to add completing this program to the mix, and I am proud of all of us!

LWPI Certification

Posted By Nichelle D. Thompson, Friday, October 26, 2012

I am happy I decided to enroll in the CWEP course with the LWPI. The entire course has assisted me with creating processes and documentation to enable growth of my company Designs By Nishy

The projects and assignments were easy for me, as I have done some of the tasks or do them every day. I did however find the assignments time consuming, as it was difficult for me to operate on a daily basis and still complete the chapters, assignments and quizzes.

I think this is a great course for beginners to take and a good refresher for already established planners.

I have included a photo of a Destination Wedding, I recently did. Please feel free to stop by our website www.designsbynishy.com.

Thanks again to LWPI!!!

Leah Rapaport's Project #2

Posted By Elika Almeida (Queiros), Monday, October 22, 2012

My student, Leah Rapaport's presentation for Project #2.  The project was detailed.  Some of my suggestions to Leah were as follows:

1.  Do not include a list of vendors at this point because you are 'selling' your services and part of what makes a planner valuable is that 'secret' list of vendors.  Once you (planner) have acquired a signed contract, you can then share your valuable resources with your clients (who have signed a contract to acquire your planning services).

2.  Leah did a great job with her contract/service agreement and with the detail she provided.  I would also suggest as part of her planning packages, she provide her STARTING rate.  For example, Full Service Wedding Planning starts at $1,500.  Though Leah customizes her wedding planning and event planning packages, it's always good to specify a starting rate.  Remember, you may be targeting a certain client.  If couples look at the starting rate of $1,500 and say "that's way too expensive"....then that may not have been the right client for you.  Rates for planning weddings and events do vary and there are several factors that go into defining what those rates would be for you (as the planner).  You have to feel comfortable with the rate and the amount of work you will be providing.  Remember to value yourself and your skills and services.

3.  When providing a Bio, you might want to consider adding a picture.  Couples love personalized information.  The couple will feel as though they already know you even before meeting you in person.  Tell your story!

Hope this helps.  Leah did a great job and incorporating some of my suggestions will help her to put that winning company presentation together and will better equip her to acquire the right clients.

I have always enjoyed planning and creating events for friends and family. I have always been the one to put together birthday parties for friends, baby showers, and bridal showers. Recently my friends and famiy have been getting engaged and getting married. SO when one of my friends asked me to help plan her weddign i was so excited when in helping her and we had so many ideas together. When the day came that they were to get married, it made me so happy that i was able to make her dream come true that and everyone had great time. Once I saw that glow on her face i knew this was what why i spent all the long days and nights plannign and going over things. I realized from that moment that i wanted to do this forever. I am not in the mist of plannning 2 friends wedding and just finished helping my brother and sister- in law with there wedding. Student, Leah Rapaport's Project #1

Posted By Elika Almeida (Queiros), Monday, October 15, 2012
I am sharing this project with everyone because it's a great example for project #1.  Leah Rapaport (one of my students) did a fantastic job of identifying the A6 formula throughout as well as providing a detailed cost breakdown and day of timeline.  A great example to follow when working on your 1st Project.  Great job Leah!

Great Experience!!!

Posted By Omolara Bankole, Monday, October 15, 2012
"Wedding and events planning is something I have always wanted to do, watching the movie the wedding planner convinced me even more. When I decided to get in the wedding industry, I didn’t know where to start from, and then I met a real live planner who encouraged me and helped me follow my dreams. A few years after I started my business I knew that I needed a certification that would teach me the ins and outs of the business. So when I started the process of certification I knew that The Wedding Planning Institute would give me the knowledge and skills to help every bride’s wedding dream come true. Longevity has taught me so much about the wedding industry that I can help my brides and clients with the most important time of their lives with minimal amount of stress and frustration. In addition because of my passion for planning wedding, I can bring joy and happiness to every bride and client i meet.
thank you for this experience!!

My expectations for the Wedding Planner Class

Posted By Katja Dietze, Monday, September 24, 2012

I am not sure what I expected, when I signed up for the Wedding Planner class. I have to admit that I am learning every time I sit down and do my assignments. I worked as an event planner for several years and  I have a history starting more than 20 years ago planning events in School and  as a Manager of a  cultural center. I also have a training with a degree in  Hotel Service and Marketing.

When I started around 6 years ago to plan Weddings I suddenly had sometimes sleepless nights. Looking back I have to admit, it was very brave to be a wedding planner without any specified training for that field. There is a huge difference between corporate and wedding events. Many of the subjects I am reading and learning through this class are very much wedding specific and I was not aware of those.

I got many excellent reviews from previous clients, so I must have done something right before but I am sure my future clients will profit from what I am learning now.

I just submitted my first project.

Finally finding the path of my passion!

Posted By Alegria ~. Sita, Sunday, September 23, 2012

Hello there LWPI colleagues!

I have been a planner since I was 13.  A leader in Student Government, I was busy organizing events for the school and larger community, working with vendors, press, and organizations to produce news worthy events.  For years, I took for granted how naturally planning and organizing were for me... and now, at 34, I've decided to grant my childhood skills worthy of a fun, creative, and service-based lifestyle.

Weddings are very specific events that require knowledge in many different areas.  I decided to join LWPI to minimize my learning curve in organizing one of the most special days in a couple's life together, so that I could be the best possible planner a couple could hire.  I have more than been satisfied with my experience.  I have learned the ins and outs of running a successful business, traditions and practices for weddings under a wide range of conditions, and have familiarized myself with industry leaders, role models, and icons.

My mentor, Elika Almeida, has been incredibly supportive throughout my entire journey with the program.  I can tell I have an ally in the business, thanks to her.  She has given me inside, experienced tips and wisdom, assisted me in problem-solving or reflecting on details of event planning, and overall lent me guidance as I start my business.

The curriculum has been exactly what I was needing from a school.  I love the technologically savvy format of the online curriculum.  It is user friendly.  The content exceeded my expectations in covering a wide range of topics that have helped me.  The assignments were applicable, and useful in setting up my professional documents.

The constructive feedback I have for the school is:  improve communication between administration, students, and mentors.  On several occasions, when I had questions that my mentor did not know the answers, there was a delay or no response from administration.  Similarly, I did not receive responses to a couple of my question for administration.  It would be helpful if this kink were ironed out for the efficient completion of the course requirements.

Other than that, Lovegevity has far exceeded my expectations, and I will certainly refer this course to others looking for a certification in wedding and event planning.  I will also be enrolling in additional courses in the near future.

THANK YOU LOVEGEVITY!!!!!

LWPI and Association of Bridal Consultants

Posted By Sonya House-Jenkins, Monday, September 17, 2012

As a student nearing the completion of the Wedding and Event Planning course I am so excited that LWPI and the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) are collectively supporting students in the special events industry. I've been a member of the Association of Bridal Consultant (ABC) for almost four years. This organization has provided me with continuing education, business resources, and helped me grow as a professional. I have met so many outstanding professionals who are ABC members from all over the world.

I believe in ABC so much that I have spearheaded the ABC Local Networking Group (LNG) in San Antonio. I am now the ABC LNG Director for San Antonio .

We meet monthly to network, attend an educational session, and tour the host venue. We also hold seminars for beginners and seasoned members.

Every year in November ABC hosts its annual conference. This year it will be held in Denver, Colorado. The conference consists of educational seminars, fabulous decor, networking opportunities, and wonderful off-site events. I look forward to attending each year.

This year I am honored to be one of the session speakers. I'll be speaking on 'Military Weddings' and explaining the unique characteristics on the military couple.

To join the association and sign up to go to the conference or get more information go to www.BridalAssn.com. You'll be glad you did.

My experience as a student of the LWPI

Posted By Celia R. Yu, Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Dear fabulous colleagues,

When I first logged into my online student course account, I felt tears in my eyes immediately because of the overwhelming chapter readings, assignments, and a 300-question final exam were waiting for me! Because of my strong passion in wedding planning, I kicked myself hard into the professional wedding planning education world. As the reading got more and more interesting, I couldn’t believe I finished all the chapters and chapter quizzes in 3 days! My brain was energized by all the professional wedding planning techniques and information the course has covered. What I have learned from the course also made me feel like I am equipped with a powerful weapon to take over the wedding planning business world. I am sure we all like to think big and dream big. I wish the best for all of us and make fantasizing about living in the big money trees a reality!

Warmest regards,

Celia Yu

Navy and gold centerpiece

Posted By Jaclyn Afeld, Tuesday, August 28, 2012

This is a picture of the center piece I created at a friends wedding. She and her husband are in the coast guard and wanted to to have different blues and golds for the colors and had the ceremony on the back deck of an Seafood restaurant with the reception inside. Since it was on the water and they are coasties, we wanted to incorporate fish into the centerpieces. Other than the photographer being 30mins late because she could not find the location, and no one being able to hear what the bride and groom were saying because it was so windy, (which also made it difficult to do the sand ceremony), everything went off without a hitch.
